The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, says his government has completed various road projects in the Ashanti region, spanning 2,079 kilometers.
According to the first gentleman of the land, these projects include major upgrades and enhancements that will transform the region’s connectivity, facilitating free transportation for residents and businesses alike.
Giving details of the projects, Akufo Addo indicated that under his tenure, the Ashanti region has 372.86km roads being asphalted.
On rehabilitation of roads, the outgoing head of state mentioned that a total 328.99km of roads were improved under this category, as 788.67km stretches were upgraded and surfaced in the Ashanti region.
President Akufo Addo was speaking at a ground-breaking event at Pakyi No.1 which marked the commencement of the dualisation of the Annwiankwanta-Ahenema Kokoben road.
The project has been awarded to Kofi Job Construction Ltd, a wholly Ghanaian-owned entity, with a 24 months’ timeline for completion.
The president indicated that the dualisation of the Annwiankwanta Ahenema-Kokoben road will undoubtedly reduce the burden of motorists traversing the said road.
The dualisation, according to the president, spans 20 km and when completed would address perennial congestion on the stretch, which has affected the movement of goods to neighbouring towns such as Ahenema Kokoben, Bofoyeduru, Kotwi, Trede, Agroyesum-Dominase, Ofoase Kokoben, Annwiankwanta, Bekwai and Obuasi among others.
The dualisation, he noted, is part of measures to improve the road network in the Ashanti region. These measures, Akufo Addo noted, are targeted in reducing travel time, lowering vehicle operation cost and improving safety.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to the development of Ghana, Akufo Addo told the function that the government remained focused on its commitment to the dualisation of roads in densely populated areas along major corridors in Ghana, citing significant roads projects in the national capital as a prime example.
“A key initiative that demonstrates government commitment in decongesting Ghanaian roads. The strategic project that we have initiated is the dualisation of Ofankor-Nsawam road and Adenta-Dodowa road.”
These projects, Akufo Addo stated, are not merely infrastructure projects, but an indication of the government’s proactive approach to solving real life challenges.
According to the president, government was committed to replicating such system along other corridors within the Ashanti region.“This is the kind of vision and decisive leadership that defines our administration and sets us apart from others”, he said.
On his part, the minister for roads and highways, Francis Asenso-Boakye, indicated that the Annwiankwanta-Kokoben road is a vital road link to the national transportation network, facilitating the movement of people from the Western, Central, Ashanti and the Northern region.
This road, Asenso-Boakye continued, is part of the national route N-10, stretching from Obuasi junction to the western region and all the way to Paga in the Upper East region.
