The government has presented a compensation package worth GH¢1,218,897 to victims of the Ejura-Sekyedumase disturbances, which occurred in 2021 in the Ashanti Region.
The package was handed over to three peoples who were affected during the infamous shooting incident at Ejura in the Ashanti Region.
Awal Mesbawu, 17 years old, whose leg was amputated, GH¢678,519.00, whiles Louis Ayikpa, 22, had GH¢347,953.00, and Nazif Nuhu, 31, was handed an amount of GH¢192,425.00.
At a short ceremony which was held at the Ejura Palace, the Chief Director at the Ministry of theInterior, Madam Adelaide Annor-Kumi, who represented her Minister, Mr. Ambrose Dery, said the three victims were compensated according to the degree of injury sustained.
On his part, the Chief of Ejura Traditional Area, Barima Osei Hwedie II, commended the government for the swift intervention.
He hailed President Akufo-Addo and the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for prioritising the welfare of Ejura.
Background
On June 28, 2021, two people were shot and killed by the security personnel in Ejura, and four others injured during a demonstration which turned violent.
The protest followed the death of a resident of the area, Ibrahim Mohammed Anyass, better known as Macho Kaaka, also a citizen journalist and #FixTheCoutry activist, who was attacked by unknown assailants at about 01:00hrs.
He was pronounced dead two days later at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
