The Ghana Embassy in Washington DC has confirmed the arrest and detention of Mrs. Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu by United States authorities following an extradition request from Ghana.
In a statement issued by the Embassy, it disclosed that Mrs. Tamakloe-Attionu is currently being held at the Nevada Southern Detention Center in Pahrump, Nevada. The facility is located at 2190 East Mesquite Avenue.
According to the Embassy, Mrs. Tamakloe-Attionu was arrested by the United States Marshals Service on January 6, 2026, and has since remained in custody at the detention centre.
The statement explained that the arrest was carried out in response to an extradition request submitted by the Government of Ghana to US authorities in July 2024. Acting on that request, US Marshals apprehended Mrs. Tamakloe-Attionu and placed her in detention pending court proceedings.
The Embassy indicated that Mrs. Tamakloe-Attionu is being held to await her day in court, as the extradition process moves forward in accordance with US legal procedures.
No further details were provided regarding the timeline for the court proceedings or the nature of the charges underlying the extradition request.
