A Presidential Candidate hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has advised Ghanaians to rise and save the country from further decline.
“We must rise and save this country from further decline. Ghana must rise to the heights it should easily be capable of”, he said,at his campaign launch in Accra, yesterday.
Mr. Agyepong told the gathering that the task ahead of the country in trying to reach sustained development is massive and as such, a collective decision must be made to join him.
His vision, he disclosed is hinged on six main agenda, namely “a lean wholly downsized government, enforcing Law and Order, imposing Discipline and ensuring Compliance of Rules and Regulations, cutting waste in the public sector, Urban Regeneration and Renewal, and finally Entertainment and Sports”.
The Civil Engineer turned politician said the country needs a government that can efficiently and effectively deliver the aspirations and expectations of Ghanaians. He also contended that the law must work to uproot corruption, protect individualsand property rights.
Mr. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong emphasised balancing Ghana’snational budget by eliminating budget deficits, over-spending and excessive materialism.
Particularly, he mentioned “cutting waste in the public sector by ensuring value for money in public procurement.”
He said he will “draw heavily on his considerable engineering background to facilitate the freeing up of vital resources.”
He further added that the current urban ecosystem is dysfunctional, unstructured and uncoordinated.
To solve this, he suggested that integrated approach must be adopted and implemented to create more livable cities and human settlements with basic needs.
He also stressed how Ghana needs “leadership regeneration” and how “one needs to lead by example for change.”
The fight for the soul of this country, Mr. Agyepong said, is in its crucial stages and as such Ghanaians should not allow materialism to rule the political space.
This, he asserted, is time to vote value, principles, and character and also restore authenticity, integrity and substance back into the political landscape.
Mr Agyepong is likely to contest against former Minister of Energy, Boakye Agyarko, a former
Member of Parliament (MP) for Mampong, Francis Addai-Nimoh; a former Minister of State, Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku; and a former Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto.
The rest are Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia; former Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen; MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong; a former Minister of Justice and Attorney General and MP for Essikado-Ketan, Joe Ghartey; and a businessman and energy expert, Kwadwo Poku.
