The Omanhene of Agogo Traditional Council, Nana Akuoko Sarpong, has urged Ghanaians to offer Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh a chance to lead Ghana.
The respected Paramount Chief argued that it is time to rally support to protect the progress that the country is currently making.
The former Minister in the erstwhile Rawlings’ government, Nana Akuoko Sarpong, made this appeal when the NPP vice presidential candidate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, paid a courtesy call on him at his Royal Palace in Agogo, Ashanti.
Since he was inaugurated as the running mate for the presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), NAPO has been embarking on a nationwide tour, primarily focussing on meeting with traditional authorities and how to strengthen the existing relationship between the NPP and the former.
Opining on the development direction of Ghana, Nana Akuoko Sarpong indicated that he has every reason to believe that Ghana is on the right path and it is, therefore, necessary for the good people of Ghana to make the right decision that will consolidate the positive gains chalked so far.
He said that, as someone from the royal home who clearly understands culture and tradition, NAPO, in his view, has demonstrated a great deal of respect, commitment and support for the total wellbeing of Nananom.
“I’ve been following your tour to the various traditional areas and I must say I’m a very proud person, having you as my nephew… you have shown that the training we gave you from the Palace, right from your early childhood development to now, has yielded the impact required to lead a nation,” Nana Sarpong intimated.
On his part, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh explained that his visit aims to exhibit respect and foster relationships between the party and traditional leaders.
Again, he is on the tour to seek cogent advice from Nananom and ultimately, remind them of why the NPP still remains the best political party in the country.
He said the Agogo state’s involvement in the development of Asanteman and Ghana cannot be underestimated, noting that his visit to the traditional leader of the state is to seek their blessings, prayers and support.
He re-echoed the party’s vision of effective partnership with traditional authorities in the governance of the country.
In his view, Nananom’s role in the advancement of development is pivotal and it is important that the NPP keep a closer partnership with them.
NAPO maintained that it is only the government of the NPP that, at all times, shows ultimate respect to all traditional authorities.
He encouraged traditional leaders to keep supporting the vision of the New Patriotic Party and ensure that the NPP is retained to move the country forward.
