In a collective effort to fight against corruption at all levels in Ghana, Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) in collaboration with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organised a two-day workshop in Akuapem North Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The two-day capacity building workshop brought together local Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Community-Based Organisations (CBOs), Social Auditing Clubs (SAC), women-based associations, youth groups and persons with disability and media practitioners in the municipality.
GII, as part of its mission, organised the workshop to educate Civil Society Organisations, citizens and the media to fight against corruption and promote good governance in the daily lives in the country.
The two-day engagement with CSOs, citizens and the media aimed to create a corruption-free society where all people and institutions act accountability, transparently and with integrity in Ghana.
The workshop is part of Center for Democratic Development (CDD)-Ghana, GII, and Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) project for strengthening accountability, rule of law and institutional responsiveness in Ghana.
The project aims to enhance the watchdog role of CSOs to advocate for and promote reforms on accountability and rule of law in Ghana.
Program and Research Officer at GII, Mr. Jacob Tetteh Ahuno explained that the workshop was mainly focused on empowering participants to act against corruption to help reduce the prevalent corruption at all levels.
Mr. Jacob Ahuno charged participants to promote transparency, access to information and ensure effective law enforcement as he outlined various corruption reporting procedures by tasking the participants to report corruption activities to appropriate agencies in the country.
The Program and Research Officer at GII, lectured participants on corruption activities and its various forms which include bribery, nepotism, extortion, conflict of interest, facilitation payment, abuse of discretion, favoritism, influence peddling, embezzlement and many other corruption related activities at all levels.
Madam Benedicta Duvor, Akuapem North Municipal Director for National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) stated that the collaboration will help extend education on corruption related practices to all Ghanaians.
She averred that the project by GII and NCCE is focused on educating the general public to fight against corruption acts and ways of reporting corruption practices at the community level.
Resource persons from Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Mampong-Akuapem Traditional Area, Information Units, Media, Local Council of Churches and other Institutions participated in the two-day capacity building workshop on corruption.
