Gay activist has not been installed a chief –Paramount chiefs deny report

The paramount chief of the Nkusumkum Traditional Area, Nana Okesse Essandoh IX, has refuted claims that a gay activist, Mr Mac Davis Iyalla, has been installed as a ceremonial chief.

Nana Essandoh, who is also the president of the Nkusukum traditional council has, therefore, cautioned that Mr Iyalla, also known as Nana Kweku Adu, could not be recognised as a ceremonial chief.

According to him, though they triggered the processes to bestow the ceremonial title on him, they later became aware of his dealings as LGBTQ+ activist and halted the process immediately.

Reacting to the wide spread issue at a news conference on Monday, this week, Nana Essandoh explained that the decision to bestow the “Amankorahen” title on the alleged gay activist was borne out of good intentions.

He explained further that the supposed gay activist was introduced to him by some friends in Cape Coast as Nana Kweku Adu, who was noted for his drive for development.

In view of this, he indicated that the development chief title was to be conferred on him to enable him to “organise the Africa-American natives in the diaspora” to Yamoransa.

The purported Africa-American natives, he said “had recently traced their ancestry back to Yamoransa and had been given Ghanaian Native Names”.

However, during the processes to officially install him as Amankorahen of Yamoransa, it was gathered that he was not just a human rights activist, but a gay rights promoter as well.

“It was during the process of his installation as Amankorahen (Nkosuahen) that the information came that Kweku Adu is also known as Mr Davies Mac Iyalla and has been supporting LGBTQI+ and its related activities,” he disclosed.

He continued that “Immediately this information came to our attention, we called for the whole process of Mr Mac Iyalla to be halted”.

Following the revelation, Nana Okesse Essandoh stated categorically that all the other processes and rites that were expected to be performed to complete the conferment were ceased.

This means that Nana Kweku Adu alias Mr Mac Davies Iyalla has not been installed as a ceremonial chief neither has any title been conferred on him and, therefore, he could not be recognised as such.
