Forestry manager calls for collective efforts to protect Environmental and climate 

Mr. Godwin Agyemang, the District manager of the Mankranso Forestry Services Division of the Forestry Commission has stated that, the protection of the environment and the devastating climate change could be possible with the collective efforts of all and sundry.

According to him, the situation would be worse until we see it as everybody’s responsibility to save the environment.

A chief takes his turn to plant a tree

He has, therefore, reminded institutions, individuals and corporate organisations to cultivate the habit of planting trees as part of their social responsibility towards protecting and saving the environment for the generation unborn.

Speaking during the observation of the Green Ghana Day last Friday, during which the ceremonial tree planting exercise under the programme took place in the Tano Offin Forest Reserve (‘Northern Portion’), he announced that the unit has embarked on nursing seedlings of all spices that are environmentally friendly for all weather to augment the exercise.

Mr. Agyemang also disclosed that his outfit has nursed over 30,000 seedlings including, Cocoa, palm and other spices, which could be accessed by any group or organisation for the all year round initiative.

He said the Mankranso Forest District has been given a target of 300,000 tree seedlings to plant and that 200,000 seedlings out of the lot are to be planted in the Forest Reserve and the remaining 100,000 to be planted outside the Forest Reserve.

He expressed the hope to achieve the target and even exceed it. He was of the view that, Greening Ghana must not be an event, but a process to save the environment and entreated everybody to come on board in an all year round tree planting exercise.

He advised that children who are the future leaders must be educated to become the ambassadors of change towards addressing envisaged degradation at the early beginning of their lives on the negative effects of environmental.

Stakeholders from the Mankranso Forestry District, which covers four political districts, namely Ahafo Ano North Municipality, Ahafo Ano South West District, Ahafo Ano South East District and Asutifi South District took part in the tree planting exercise.
