Cows, under normal circumstances, are supposed to stay in their kraal and only come out when they are being sent to the fields to graze, devoid of human activities. They are not supposed to mingle with human beings.
Unfortunately, these animals are allowed to move freely on the streets of Accra, the capital of Ghana, without any restraint.
Tetteh Quarshie Interchange is one of the tourist attractions in Accra, but it has become hackneyed nowadays to see cows, sometimes very dirty, grazing in the inner circle of the interchange.
Though Ayawaso West Wuogon Municipal assembly officials have been seeing these animals grazing in the middle of the city, which is a disgrace to Ghana as a country, nothing has been done about it.
Now the ‘free range’ has been extended to Adentan, where cows are released and allowed to graze in residential areas, especially the Adentan SSNIT Flats.
Once again, though the municipal assembly is just a walking distance, officials pretend they have not seen what is going on right under their noses.
The Chronicle is, therefore, drawing the attention of the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development to the disturbing issue and the need to stop it.
Cows should certainly not be allowed to roam on the streets of a city like Accra.
