Tension is building at Teye Kwame community on the Tema-Akosombo highway, following the invasion of the place by the Yokwenya clan from Manya Krobo Traditional Area of the Eastern Region.

The invading clan has, for sometime now, been laying claim to a stretch of land situated between Asutsuare and Akuse Junctions, in the Greater Accra and Eastern Regions respectively.

Information gathered by The Chronicle reveals that on Thursday October 30, 2025 the alleged aggressor from Manya Krobo, numbering over five hundred (500) on board buses and Kia trucks, drove to the disputed land in convoy.

Whilst in the celebration mood of the ongoing annual Ngmayem Festival of the Chiefs and people of Manya Krobo, the group stormed the Teye Kwame community and finally headed to the adjoining Muerteh Hills.

The invading men and women reportedly made libation to their ancestors who lived there centuries ago, slaughtered sheep, fowls, feasted joyously amid beating and dancing to Nadu (ancestral war drumming).

So charged was the atmosphere that, the Chief of Teye Kwame, Nene Narh Boslobo I was compelled to invite police, who responded from Akuse, Akosombo and Tema, to avert bloodshed.

Speaking to The Chronicle from his base at Teye Kwame, Nene Boslobo I, told this reporter that the Teye Kwame family hail from Gbesedorm Wenguam at Osuwem in the Osudoku Traditional Area of the Shai Osudoku District in the Greater Accra Region.

According to Nene Boslobo I, they are supported by an alleged Supreme Court ruling a few years ago, which reportedly allowed them the right of entry to the stretch of land.

The court, he continued, further directed them to undertake boundary demarcation and that they have presently created a buffer zone in the area.

According to him, the Teye Kwame family had produced valid documents to substantiate ownership of the area.

Nene further told The Chronicle that the Teye Kwame community share boundaries to the East with the Zanidor stream, West with Yilo, North with Dokutse Perteh, near Akuse Junction and the Southern boundary with Shai.

He went on that, his people would not like to engage in any form of bloodshed with the people of Yokwenya since they all belong to the Dangme extraction.

Nene Kwablah Tibu IV, leader of the Yokwenya group, when contacted by The Chronicle contended that the general area, including the hills, were their ancestral homes.

According to the chief, the hills –Muerteh Yo – was the settlement for a deity, which possessed the spirit for fighting (wrestling) and the second most powerful to their ancestral deity, the Nadu.

Nene Tibu, one of the six warrior-chiefs of Yokwenya continued that when the Krobo speaking people occupied the present day Krobo Mountain hundreds of years ago, Muerteh Yo was part of their habitat until 1892 when the British colonial government, under Governor Sir William Brandford Griffith ordered their eviction from the 90-meter elevation.

He went on that, the Yokwenya clan that is found at Adjikpo Yokunya, Asitey (Krobo Girls Secondary School Area), Agormanya, Abanse, Manaam and Pampam do visit the Muerteh Yo periodically to make libation and that, the trip to their ancestral home would not cease.

He confirmed an earlier report by the Teye Kwame leadership that, both factions met on three occasions at the offices of the Akuse District Police Commander, as the Ngmayem Festival was approaching, to attempt to resolve this issue amicably before it goes out of their control.

Nene Tibu assured The Chronicle that “we shall honour invitation from any quarters regarding the MuertehYo matters”.

Police at Doryumu District Headquarters, where the incident was reported, on their part admitted to The Chronicle of such a case being under investigation.

The Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mr Richard Quarshie, told the paper that invitation had been extended to both factions for them to meet and discuss the issue.
