The Police have lived up to its constitutional mandate to prevent and investigate crime. Over the weekend, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, personally led a contingent of detectives drawn from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit, Police Intelligence Department, Ashaiman Division and District to search and arrest the suspected killers of Trooper Imoro Sheriff.

The Chronicle has gleaned from credible sources that six suspects were arrested during the special intelligence led operation and currently in custody.

Our source named these suspects as; Safianu Musah, alias Dayorgu, Ibrahim Abdul Rakib, Samuel Tetteh, alias Wiper, Abubakar Sadick, alias Birdman, Yussif Mohammed and Abdul Gafaru.

Investigation conducted by The Chronicle has revealed that contrary to the information put in the public domain, the Military High Commanded has not handed over any suspect to the police, after the infamous swoop at Ashaniman, where innocent people were rounded up and beaten like animals in the full glare of the public.

The six suspects arrested so far, this reporter was told by a credible source, are not part of those arrested by the military and that they were arrested based on the in-depth investigation the police conducted into the killing of the soldier.

Further information obtained by The Chronicle indicates the slain soldier, who is with the 154 Armoured Reece Regiment in Sunyani, came to Accra for an official assignment. On March 4, 2023, he complained of ill-health and was given the passage to visit home

On the same day, Trooper Imoro Sheriff left Burma Camp and proceeded to visit his female friend at Ashaiman New Town, around 10:30pm.

Then around 1:30am he left his female friend’s house and headed for his mother’s home. On his way, the suspects attacked him and attempted to snatch his mobile phone from him.

In the ensuing struggle, Samuel Tetteh, one of the suspects, reportedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the deceased soldier. The suspects then succeeded in taking the mobile phone and fled the crime scene.

The crime was then reported to the police, but instead of waiting for the men and women in black uniform to conduct thorough investigation into case, the Military High Command gave approval for armed soldiers to descend on innocent people of Ashaiman and subjected them to inhumane treatment.

With a chopper flying below radar, some workers who are not even residents of Ashaiman were not spared as they were also subjected to beatings as well.

After the highly condemnable operation, the military claimed to have arrested over hundred people and that they would screen and hand over the rest to the police. But as earlier stated, no such suspects have been handed over to the police.
