The husband of the murdered Police Non Commission Officer (NCO), Number 5472, Agatha Nana Nabin, is reminding the Interior Minister about his promise to cater for their three children till they attain age eighteen.
The husband, Paul Nabin, gave the reminder in a telephone conversation with The Chronicle on Monday, January 30, 2023.
According to him, on August 24, 2019 at the Holy Cross Parish in Tamale, during the burial service for his slain wife, the Minister of the Interior, Ambrose Derry, promised that government was going to take care of their three children until they attain eighteen years.
He regretted that after this statement had been made, not even a pesewa has been received from government to take care of the children.
The children are Christabel Nabin, 12, Josephine Nabin, 9 and Jessica Nabin, 5.
He added that, since the incident, he has travelled from Tamale to Accra sixteen (16) times to access a constitutionally instituted package at the Police Headquarters without success.
Taking care of the three children alone, without a mother, and since the means are not there to engage the services of a Caretaker, is overburdening me, he stated.
In the night of July 30, 2019 PW/Cpl Nana Nabin was in charge of a team of three personnel on duty at a snap checkpoint in the Tamale metropolis. Hooded armed men dressed in military fatigue over desert boots, in a private car pulled at the checkpoint, shot and shattered her head.
The bandits took custody of her loaded rifle and that of another female Police Constable, who attempted to escape but got trapped by a bench.
The only male Constable with them managed to scale over a wall, took position and fired a number of shots that compelled the killers to flee with their getaway private car.
The Police Headquarters marshalled its might to beef up its strength in Tamale and within 24 hours into the operation, arrested some suspects. They were put before a Tamale Circuit Court, which remanded them into custody.
But following advice from the Attorney General, the suspects were freed from the murder charges levelled against them.
The Law Office argued that there must be someone to identify the suspects as the culprits who committed the atrocities that night.
However, the charge of unlawful possession of military accoutrements, according to the AG’s advice, must be maintained.
