Everton are close to signing Arnaut Danjuma from Villarreal after the midfielder completed his medical on Saturday.
The Toffees have been chasing the former Bournemouth man for a while and are set to complete a loan deal this week, despite Frank Lampard’s sacking on Monday.
Everton have fought off interest from the Cherries, while Nottingham Forest were also interested, but Danjuma made the decision to move to Merseyside on Friday.
Lampard had been keen to add more attacking options to his side after the arrival of the Netherlands man, particularly as interest builds in Anthony Gordon.
Everton have been surrounded by unrest at the club with fans protesting against the board in recent times, and Gordon was caught up in an altercation with fans last week.
Danjuma will be the first player signed this transfer window for an Everton side that sit 19th in the Premier League table, two points from safety.
They have only scored 15 league goals this season in 28 games, resulting in Lampard losing his job.
