Barring any last-minute hitches, ENI Ghana is expected to boost Ghana’s thermal power generation with an additional supply of 30 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day (MMscfd), the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced.
According to a statement issued by the ministry, the increased gas flow will take effect on Sunday, July 13, 2025. This will raise ENI’s total daily gas supply to the national grid to 270 MMscfd.
“This strategic upgrade is a key step in bolstering our energy infrastructure and ensuring a reliable energy supply for the nation,” the ministry said.
To facilitate the transition, ENI will temporarily suspend its gas export operations which short term measure the ministry considers essential for optimizing the supply chain and ensuring the smooth rollout of the enhanced gas delivery.
“Consequently, there will be an impact on the availability of gas for power generation during this period,” the statement cautioned.
The statement, however, assured the public that the ministry, in collaboration with key players in the power sector, has instituted a series of contingency measures aimed at minimizing the potential impact on electricity supply.
These include enhanced monitoring of power generation and the activation of alternative supply strategies.
The ministry expressed optimism that the proactive steps taken will ensure a stable and uninterrupted power supply for all consumers during the transitional period.
