A Circuit Court in Dansoman, presided over by Judge Halimah El-Alawa Abdul Baasit, has granted bail to Ernest Oti Arthur, a 31-year-old Warehouse Manager, accused of stealing electronic appliances valued at GH¢72,130.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing, contrary to Section 124(1) of the Criminal Offences Act of 1960, Act 29.
The court admitted Oti Arthur to bail in the sum of GH¢80,000 with three sureties, all of whom must be Public Servants earning not less than GH¢5,000 per month and residing within the court’s jurisdiction.
The sureties must also be justified. As part of the bail conditions, the accused is required to deposit his Ghana Card with the court Registry and report to the court every other week until further notice.
The prosecution has been directed to file all necessary processes ahead of the case management conference.
The case has been adjourned to March 12, 2025.
Background
The complainant, Tandoh Zachariah, a retail manager at Electroland Ghana Limited, discovered discrepancies during an annual stock review on January 6, 2025.
Investigations revealed that Oti Arthur allegedly placed unauthorised orders for multiple electronic appliances, including televisions, stabilisers, air conditioners and sound systems, between December 12, 2024 and December 30, 2024.
Further checks at the Spintex branch of Electroland revealed that Oti Arthur had placed an order for two 43-inch televisions under the name “Kwaku” who remains unidentified.
Additionally, the accused admitted to stealing two Samsung A15 mobile phones but failed to account for their whereabouts.
The police investigation concluded that the total value of the stolen items amounted to GH¢72,130.
Oti Arthur, however, denied receiving the items listed in his unauthorised orders.
Following his arrest and subsequent investigation, Oti Arthur was charged with stealing and arraigned before the Circuit Court, Dansoman.
The prosecution is expected to file all necessary documents ahead of the next court sitting.
