Last week, the Boys & Girls Club of Ghana, in collaboration with Kobbah Acquah Foundation, rewarded some outstanding teachers in the Club’s partner schools in the Central Region.
The maiden award ceremony was to recognise and celebrate teachers for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to effective teaching so as to improve the quality of education in the club’s catchment area.
In all, thirteen teachers, drawn from the Anomabo/Yamoransa Circuits in the Mfantseman Municipality in the Central Region, were honoured based on their skills in communication, listening, adaptability, empathy, and patience.
It is worthy to explain that the colourful event, which took place at Anomabo, was fully sponsored by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kobbah Acquah Foundation, Mr. Emmanuel Kwesi Acquah.
He explained that his decision to officially sponsor the event formed part of his vision to improve on the standard of education in the area.
He said: “My aim is to help improve the delivery of quality education in our communities, especially in the Mfantseman Municipality, but we cannot improve education without the teachers.
“So, we needed to motivate the teachers so that they can also teach our children well and this is why I tried to sponsor this award as a way to inspire the teachers in our area so that they can teach better,” he added.
Mr. Acquah donated approximately GH¢55,000 as cash prize to the teachers, as well as other individuals who were given meritorious awards as part of his vision.
The Chronicle finds this initiative by Mr. Acquah very significant and worthy of praise, especially as it is meant to recognise the immense contribution of teachers, in the quest to improve the standard of education.
In the field of teaching and learning, the teacher plays a significant role in relation to impacting knowledge on students.
Invariably, the role of the teacher in the pursuit to improve the standard of education, particularly at the basic level, cannot be underestimated.
Arguably, providing motivation for teachers would help to improve their performance and this is why the great vision of KoAF and the Boys and Girls Club must be commended.
This is why we appreciate the great effort by Mr. Acquah, because in our view the role of a highly motivated teacher is an indispensable factor for classroom effectiveness and academic enhancement, as far as teaching and learning is concerned.
It is our clarion call on other well to do members of our various societies and communities to emulate this great initiative by the KoAF and BGCG and support basic education in their respective communities.
Improving the quality of education of our basic schools is a shared responsibility; therefore, those who have shown commitment in supporting our teachers to give off their best ought to be commended.
We say ayekooo to BoAF, its Chief Executive and the Boys and Girls Club, Ghana, for their immense contribution to motivate teachers.
