On October 7, this year, Hamas, a militant group, launched an unprecedented attack on the State of Israel, which was then wrapping up the seven-day-long Jewish festival of Sukkot. Hamas attacked its opponent from land, sea and air. In the end, as many as 1,400 innocent Israelis were slaughtered.
Israel then declared war on Hamas and promised to annihilate them. The Israeli army has since dropped an uncountable number of bombs on the poor people of Gaza, killing over 8,000 people and still counting. Having seen the devastation going on in Gaza, most citizens in Arab countries have taken to the streets in protest, accusing Israel of causing genocide.
In Gaza itself, the people, according to Aljazeera reports, do not understand why Israel should inflict collective punishment on them. As we put this piece together, water, which is a basic human necessity, is very scarce in Gaza. The territory is running out of medical, fuel and food supplies. In summary, the people are being suffocated to death, as a result of the attacks by Israel.
Though the current conflict was caused by Hamas, those protesting in the Muslim world against Israel have not found it necessary to condemn the militant group for killing as many as 1,400 innocent Israelis without provocation.
All what they are interested in is the killing of Palestinians in Gaza. Are Israelis not human beings, just as those living in Gaza? Despite the bombardments and suffering of the people, Hamas has still not deemed it fit to release the hostages they are holding, and set the tone for the discussion of peace and subsequent ceasefire.
One would have, therefore, expected that the Muslim world would condemn the continued illegal detention of Israelis and other foreign nationals. Unfortunately, they are not doing that, but continued to blame Israel, which has obviously taken up arms to defend herself. This is complete hypocrisy.
On the other side of the coin is the attitude of the Western countries and Christian world, especially United States, Great Britain and France. These western countries and the Christian world know that the only solution to the Israeli-Palestine conflict is to allow the latter to have its own state.
For reasons known to them, Palestine has been denied statehood since the creation of Israel, back in 1948. The harassment of the Palestine people by Israel is simply horrible, as they are even denied access to their fatherland to farm.
As the Akan adage goes, when the frog is suffocated with water, it begins to cry. Since the world is not supporting them, the only way out for the Palestine people is to resort to violence to gain their independence.
Are the western countries and Christian world not aware of the way Israel is suppressing the Palestinians – they are obviously aware, but in the name of religion, they pretend not to know what is going on. Another hypocrisy that must be condemned by those whose interest it is to bring about peace into this troubled world.
France, US and Britain and other western countries, we insist, have the power to bring this current conflict to an end, but they are not doing that. Rather, they are sending modern sophisticated weapons to Israel so that more Palestinians will be killed.
In all these situations, the United Nations, which is supposed to bring about peace into the world, has become a toothless mongrel. They cannot take any action that does not have the backing of the US, Britain and France – what a world are we living in?
In our opinion, there can be peace in the Middle East only when Moslems who are backing Hamas to perpetuate its terrorist activities on the state of Israel and the Christian world (Including US, France and Britain) who are also supporting Israel to deny Palestinians the right to have their own state, condemn activities of both sides.
The Christian world cannot convince us that there is nothing wrong about the way Israel is killing innocent civilians in Gaza, in the name of attempting to destroy Hamas. In the same way, the Moslem world cannot say that the killing of 1,400 Israelis without any provocation is justifiable. There must be common ground to resolve the conflict.
