The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has recovered a total of GH¢6,525,642 from customers who engage in power theft or illegal connection.
The figure was realised through the efforts of the ECG’s National Taskforce and Revenue Protection Section and the Ministry of Energy.
The Managing Director of ECG, Kwame Agyeman-Budu, told the media that the Taskforce, together with staff of the ECG’s Revenue Protection Section, visited over 12,730 customers in the country, unearthed 1,537 illegal connections, and recovered GH¢6,525,645.
Mr Agyeman-Budu, after appealing to the public to assist in fighting illegal connections, said the ECG had a handsome reward package for informants who would give tip-offs on illegal connections.
He said informants would be given six per cent of the total monies to be recovered as a result of their patriotic duty.
“We assure the general public that the identities of all informants will be strictly protected at all times,” he said.
