ECG ends operation ‘Fix the Bill; Pay the Bill’ sensitisation exercise

In its frantic effort to provide better services to customers and address issues of power theft, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has carried out a nationwide operation dubbed ‘Fix the Bill; Pay the Bill’.

The operation, which was carried out across all 16 regions but at different times and periods, was further to fix all post-paid meter billing which was in response to concerns raised by customers over wrong billing in the past few months.

The Eastern Regional Office of ECG started its exercise on November 6, 2023, with the visiting of every post-paid customer’s meter and capturing their consumption readings in order to improve the quality of billing, which is expected to end on December 11, 2023.

So far, about 186,181 out of a customer population of 318,433 have been visited and had their meters read in three weeks.

The General Manager (GM) in charge of the Eastern Regional Bureau of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Ing. Mrs. Sariel Adobea Etwire, hinted that the exercise would go a long way to verify the integrity and help build customer confidence in the bills her outfit delivers.

Addressing a cross-section of media practitioners in the Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua, she took the opportunity to encourage customers to cooperate with her staff and also pay all arrears.

“The operation ‘Fix the Bill; Pay the Bill’ exercise is a channel for the company to end the stealing of power from the ECG and to enable customers to settle their arrears, especially those using the postpaid meter,” she stressed.

The Eastern Regional General Manager of the Company, Ing. Sariel Etwire, said that the exercise was expected to improve quality billing by generating accurate bills through transparency to customers in the region.

She disclosed that 15,000 prepaid meters for customers in Koforidua and 4,000 for those in Kibi would be upgraded as part of strategic ways to improve the company’s services.

Ing. Sariel Etwire said that staff were deployed to Akyem Oda, Akwatia, Asesewa, Asamankese, Begoro, Donkorkrom, Kibi, Kade, Koforidua, Mpraeso, Nkawkaw, New Abirem, Suhum and Akyem Tafo for the exercise.

She indicated that the company was working diligently on the ECG Application to help reduce the stress of customers, in terms of payment, and it would, therefore, be imperative for customers to pay their bills to enable the company carry out its services during the coming festive season.

Mrs. Etwire passionately appealed to customers who had received estimated bills to make efforts to visit the various district offices for redress to enable them pay their bills on time as she promised uninterrupted services.
