A group of fifteen Members of Parliament (MPs) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Eastern Region, who have declared their support for Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, ahead of the January 2026 Presidential Primaries have accused Bryan Acheampong, a presidential aspirant of the NPP, of sowing seeds of division and spreading lies to disrupt party unity in the region.

According to them, none of the group members privately called Dr Acheampong to either apologise or retract their support for Dr. Bawumia, as the NPP flagbearer aspirant is alleged to have said.

“We, the undersigned Eastern Regional MPs, remain firm, united and unwavering in our support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. We consider Bryan Acheampong’s allegations as baseless, divisive and calculated to serve his personal agenda.

“We, therefore, call on him to retract his false claims immediately and desist from any further attempts to undermine the unity and integrity of our great party,” the statement said.

In a statement issued and copied to The Chronicle, the unhappy fifteen legislators, who refer to themselves as the “Eastern Regional Pro-DMB MPs”, accused Bryan Acheampong of engaging in diabolic politics since they publicly endorsed the former Vice President.

“We, the fifteen (15) Members of Parliament from the Eastern Region who have openly and publicly declared our unflinching support for His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, wish to categorically refute and set the record straight regarding the unfortunate claims made by Hon. Bryan Acheampong in his attempt to undermine our endorsement of Dr. Bawumia,” they stated.

According to the group, their declaration for Dr. Bawumia, an accomplished Economist, who served as Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana during the Kufuor administration, dazed Bryan Acheampong’s camp, prompting them to resort to false narratives.
“Following our press conference, Hon. Acheampong and his campaign team have been churning out various falsehoods aimed at instigating disaffection for the NPP in our constituencies,” they alleged.

Denial of Apology Claims

The MPs categorically denied allegations by Bryan Acheampong that some of them had privately called him to apologize or retract their support for Dr. Bawumia.
“There is absolutely no truth in Hon. Bryan Acheampong’s assertion that some of us privately called him after our press conference to downplay our declaration. We challenge him, in the spirit of truth and accountability, to publicly name the MPs he alleges contacted him. Until he does so, his claim remains nothing but a fabrication intended to discredit our genuine and resolute support for Dr. Bawumia,” the group stated.

False Claims of Exchange of Text Messages with Dr. Bawumia

The group also challenged Bryan Acheampong, MP for Abetifi, to produce evidence of any text message exchanges between him and Dr. Bawumia.
“Our checks prove that there have been no such exchanges between Dr. Bawumia and Hon. Acheampong. Failure to produce this evidence will only expose his claim as a deliberate falsehood designed to hoodwink delegates.”

Accusations of Division

The MPs expressed disgust over what they described as Bryan Acheampong’s attempt to divide the party, especially at the polling station level. “It is regrettable that Hon. Bryan Acheampong has been moving around polling stations sowing seeds of division between constituency executives and polling station members,” the statement said.

The MPs claim Bryan falsely suggested that he personally funded the 2024 general election campaign in the region and that any failure of polling station executives to receive funds was the fault of their MPs or constituency executives.
“He further claims that if the polling station executives did not receive such amounts, anger should be directed at constituency executives and MPs,” they said, labelling the comment as “a calculated attempt to sow division among the rank and file of the party and weaken it with falsehoods.”

Clarification on Campaign Financing

The MPs clarified that the campaign funds disbursed during the 2024 elections in the Eastern Region did not come from Bryan Acheampong’s personal resources, but rather from party financiers and businesspersons who supported Dr. Bawumia’s presidential bid.
As the Regional Campaign Coordinator, Bryan was only responsible for facilitating the disbursement—not funding it himself.

According to the MPs, the funds were allocated for specific campaign purposes and were not intended to be distributed to polling station executives, contrary to Bryan’s claims.
“The false claim that he personally provided these amounts for the benefit of polling station executives is not only distasteful, but also an attempt to create confusion in the party by falsely portraying party officials as unaccountable.”
They also claimed that the actual amounts received by MPs were less than originally agreed, and in many instances, MPs had to use their own personal resources to cover campaign expenses.

“It is, therefore, misleading and self-serving for Bryan Acheampong to now portray himself as the personal benefactor of the Eastern Region campaign effort.”

Call for Transparency and Accountability

The MPs called on the Central Campaign Team of Dr. Bawumia’s 2024 bid, specifically the Campaign Manager and the Finance Committee Chairman, to come forward and clarify the exact amounts of money disbursed to Bryan Acheampong for operations in the Eastern Region.
“Transparency on this matter is necessary to put an end to the distortions and to protect the integrity of the campaign,” they concluded.
