The Dunkwa Nursing and Midwifery Training College is to run BSc programmes in Nursing, Midwifery and Gerontology.
The Principal of the College, Mr. David Ben Sampson, who disclosed this at the 13th Matriculation ceremony of the College, last Friday, said efforts to upgrade the College to run BSc programmes in Nursing midwifery and Gerontology through curricular development of the programmes are at various stages and receiving attention from the appropriate academic, regulatory bodies and institutions.
He expressed the hope that the College will grow to become a fully Chartered University in the not too distant future to run various BSc and Masters in Allied Health Science programmes.
Principal Sampson attributed the strides made so far to the encouraging pass rate of state licensing Examination (by NMC GH) for 2021 and 2022.
He explained that the College scored 95.4% and 97%; Registered General Nursing; Registered Midwifery (90.5% and 97.7%); Nurse Assistant Clinical 83.2% and 82%.
He announced that a total of 1,453 students were admitted to the College for the 2023/2024 academic year, out of which 668 will pursue Registered General Nursing, while 454 will pursue Registered Midwifery with 331 studying Nurse Assistant Clinical.
Out of the total of 1,453 fresh students – 1,250 are females and 203 males. The Principal called on trainee students to take their academy work very seriously and desist from examination malpractices because poor academic performance could lead to demotion, repetition or outright dismissal.
The Principal advised parents to encourage their wards to learn hard and conform to the College’s rules and regulations as enshrined in the Ministry of Health/ Health Training Institute students’ handbook to ensure that the investments made in their wards will not be counterproductive.
Nana Twum Barimah II, Denkyira Kontihene and Chief of Badua, advised the students to take their studies seriously and always bear in mind that they are at school to follow the rules and regulations.
