The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has advised the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) not to sideline former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the party seeks revival and unity.

Delivering a fraternal message at the NPP’s ongoing National Delegates Conference in Accra, Mr. Ludwig Hlodze, Director of Logistics and Protocol for the NDC, urged the NPP to tap into the invaluable experience of the two former leaders for party growth and national democratic progress.
“Do not eliminate them from your ranks,” Mr. Hlodze stated. “They need you, and you need them to build a stronger and more united opposition party.”
He noted that the NPP holds a unique position in Ghana’s political history as the only party to have produced two living former presidents, and stressed the importance of integrating such leadership into current party decision-making.
The NDC expressed hope that the NPP would emerge from the congress united, strengthened, and ready to contribute constructively to Ghana’s democratic development.
“We need a strong opposition to deepen Ghana’s democracy,” Mr. Hlodze emphasized, while wishing the NPP well in its deliberations.

Touching on Ghana’s democratic journey, the NDC said it is the collective duty of political actors to ensure that the country does not fail in its democratic enterprise. “We, the political class, must live a legacy for generations yet unborn,” the party stressed.
According to the NDC, Ghana is undergoing a process of institutional and political reset, and all political parties must re-examine their ideas and programmes to meet the evolving aspirations of Ghanaians.
In this light, the NDC welcomed the NPP’s efforts to reflect and restructure, noting that constructive opposition is crucial in supporting President John Mahama’s vision of building a better Ghana.
