The third Astro Turf to be constructed in the Manhyia South Constituency in Kumasi by the Member of Parliament (MP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has been commissioned over the weekend.
Situated at Dichemso, the facility has been named Otumfuo Park, after the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Two other Astro Turfs by the Manhyia South MP have been completed at the Abbey’s Park and Konadu Yiadom Basic School. Construction of a fourth one is currently ongoing at the KO School Park.
The construction of the Astro Turfs, according to the Member of Parliament who is also the Energy Minister, is to give a boost to sporting activities and help unearth sporting talents among the youth in the constituency.
He said he was spurred by his passion and vision to promote sports, based on the realisation that football talents abound in all the electoral areas, including KO, Manhyia, Afia Kobi, CPC, Odumase and Dichemso, all in the Manhyia South Constituency.
