Popular Nigerian Artiste, Davido has made public his commitment to donate money to orphanages in Nigeria every year.
On his active social media handles, the Grammy-nominated singer announced that a new donation will be made again this year to the tune of N300 million, equivalent to $186,764.
“I and my foundation pledge the sum of 300 million Naira to orphanages around Nigeria … as my yearly contribution to the Nation; details of disbursement tomorrow,” Davido wrote.
Davido began this yearly donation of money to orphanages in 2021 when he received a total sum of N200 million from friends, industry mates and fans. This was after he jovially invited people to send him money for his birthday celebration.
Adding N50 million, Davido announced on November 19, 2021, that he was donating the N250 million gathered to some orphanages.
This inspired the creation of his foundation, The David Adeleke Foundation, in 2022, which oversaw the disbursement of the funds in 2022, the same year.
In February 2022, he revealed that the five-man disbursement committee set up saw to it that about 292 deserving orphanages received their share of the money to operate.
In 2023, Davido made another donation of N237 million.
The musician said that the donation made through his foundation, The David Adeleke Foundation (DAF) and headed by the chair of the DAF Disbursement Committee, Mrs. Titi Adebayo, benefited 13,818 children.
