Marc Cucurella was quick to respond to Gary Neville’s previous criticism after helping Spain win Euro 2024.
The Chelsea star shone as La Roja beat England 2-1 in the final on Sunday but had doubts cast over him earlier in the tournament.
Neville suggested that Cucurella was a reason as to why he thought Spain couldn’t go on and win the tournament in Germany.
However, the left-back proved crucial for his country throughout Euro 2024 and assisted Mikel Oyarzabal’s late winner against England.
After winning his first major honour with Spain, he took to Instagram to gleefully respond to Neville having proved him wrong.
“We went all the way Gary. Thanks for your support,” he said on his story with a graphic of Neville’s criticism.
Cucurella started in all but one of Spain’s seven games during Euro 2024, with his only omission coming against Albania in the groups.
The 25-year-old played all 120 minutes of their quarter-final win over Germany before completing the full 90 against Spain and England.
He capped off his tournament by keeping Bukayo Saka at bay in the final and pulling off an excellent and decisive pass to Oyarzabal.
During the team’s celebrations, Cucurella stood on a table and took to the mic to perform a funny song about himself.
