The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has deployed 45 observers to strategically selected constituencies across Ghana to monitor the voter exhibition exercise.
This deployment is part of CODEO’s commitment to ensuring transparency and integrity in the electoral process, as the country prepares for the December 2024 general elections.
In preparation for their role, CODEO conducted comprehensive training for the observers, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively monitor the voter exhibition and provide detailed reports to CODEO’s data center.
The training emphasised the importance of maintaining professionalism and adhering to best practices during the observation period.
Albert Kofi Arhin, National Coordinator of CODEO, outlined the coalition’s objectives in a release.
He emphasised that the voter exhibition exercise, scheduled from August 20 to August 27, 2024 is a key component of CODEO’s mandate to encourage active citizen participation in the electoral process and support the Electoral Commission’s efforts in conducting transparent, free, fair and peaceful elections.
In his address, Mr. Arhin reminded observers to remain impartial, stating that “As observers, your role is to observe, not to interfere. Your professionalism is crucial to the credibility of this exercise and, by extension, to the integrity of our electoral system.”
CODEO also urged all registered voters to utilise the voter exhibition period to verify their details either by visiting exhibition centers or using the EC’s exhibition short code. This verification process is crucial for ensuring an accurate voter register.
The coalition called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to uphold high standards of impartiality and transparency throughout the exercise and ensure that all registered voters have access to the process.
CODEO also advised the EC and the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) to enhance public awareness campaigns to inform voters about the exhibition.
Furthermore, CODEO stressed the importance of adherence to electoral laws by all stakeholders, including political parties and their supporters.
The coalition urged that any concerns or disputes be addressed through appropriate legal channels to preserve the peace and credibility of the electoral process.
CODEO remains committed to fostering a transparent and fair electoral environment and will provide updates on its observations throughout the process.
A comprehensive report will be issued at the conclusion of the voter exhibition exercise.
