The Coconut Federation-Ghana has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of eight distinguished Ghanaians who perished in last week’s tragic military helicopter crash.
In a statement released on August 12, 2025 and signed by Vice President Kwaku Boateng, the Federation described the incident as a “heartbreaking loss.”
It paid tribute to the victims, including cabinet ministers, senior National Democratic Congress (NDC) officials and military personnel as individuals who made significant contributions to the governance, security and development of Ghana.
“We are deeply saddened by this heartbreaking loss,” the statement read. “These were individuals whose lives were devoted to the service of our cherished nation.”
The Federation extended its heartfelt condolences to the government and the bereaved families, especially the spouses, children and loved ones of the deceased, acknowledging the profound grief they now bear.
“They soared in service to our nation — guardians whose courage and discipline were matched only by their love for Ghana,” the statement continued.
“Their sacrifice is a solemn reminder that the price of peace is often paid in silence by the brave, whose hearts beat for our safety until their final breath.”
The crash involved a Z-9 helicopter belonging to the Ghana Armed Forces and claimed the lives of:
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology; Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Sarpong, former Central Regional Minister and Samuel Aboagye, former Obuasi East parliamentary candidate.
Also lost were members of the Ghana Armed Forces air crew: Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Malin Twum-Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah
The nation continues to mourn the tragic loss of these patriots, whose dedication and service will not be forgotten.
