A 54-year-old civil servant, Nii Ade Ankrah, has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢150,000 with two sureties, one to be justified, by the Circuit Court at Dansoman, presided over by Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Bassit.
Nii Ade Ankrah, who pleaded not guilty to the charge of causing unlawful damage, contrary to Section 172 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), is alleged to have demolished a four-unit chamber and hall self-contained building valued at GH¢120,000, belonging to one Elvis Doughan, a mechanic at Danchira in the Greater Accra Region.
The prosecuting officer, Chief Inspector Christopher Wonder, told the court that the accused intentionally caused the demolition of the complainant’s building on July 12, 2025.
According to the brief facts presented, the complainant was informed on the said date that his property had been demolished.
He rushed to the scene only to find the building destroyed and the culprits gone. A report was subsequently lodged with the Police.
In August 2025, the accused reportedly hired a bulldozer to demolish the remaining structures on the land.
Acting on a tip-off, the complainant, in the company of police officers, proceeded to the scene where they met the accused supervising the exercise.
Nii Ade Ankrah allegedly admitted to being the one who brought the bulldozer to the site and was subsequently arrested.
Investigations later revealed that he was responsible for both the initial demolition and the subsequent destruction of the remaining footings of the building.
Upon consideration of the submission by counsel for the accused, the court exercised its discretion to grant bail pursuant to Article 19(2)(c) of the 1992 Constitution.
As part of the bail conditions, the accused is to deposit his Ghana Card at the court registry and report to the police every two weeks until otherwise directed.
The court further directed the prosecution to file disclosures and witness statements to pave the way for the Case Management Conference (CMC) scheduled for November 24, 2025.
