Mr. Julius Debrah, the Chief of Staff, has commended the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) for its significant contributions to the country’s mining sector.
He expressed the government’s appreciation for the agency’s critical role in promoting transparency, regulation and value addition in Ghana’s gold trade.
The occasion was during a working visit by Mr. Debrah to GoldBod to familiarise himself with opreations there, which visit included a tour of the facility and engagement with management and staff.
Mr. Debrah’s visit to GoldBod reiterated the government’s appreciation for the agency’s work and its commitment to supporting its efforts to regulate Ghana’s gold industry.
With its critical role in promoting transparency and value addition, GoldBod is well-positioned to contribute to the country’s economic development and ensure a sustainable future for Ghana’s mining sector.
The visit comes barely two days after President John Mahama officially inaugurated the GoldBod task force to help clamp down on the activities of gold smugglers across the country.
This development underscores the government’s commitment to tackling illicit activities in the mining sector and promoting responsible mining practices.
The Chief of Staff, who was briefed on the agency’s current operations, achievements and challenges encouraged staff to continue working with professionalism and integrity.
Mr. Debrah lauded GoldBod achievements so far and assured the staff of the government’s commitment to support GoldBod in strengthening its mandate and operational capacity.
He urged them to remain focused on their mission of safeguarding Ghana’s gold industry for the benefit of future generations.
GoldBod, a key agency under Ghana’s Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, is responsible for regulating gold exports, curbing smuggling, and enhancing the country’s revenue from artisanal and small-scale mining.
