Chief of Army Staff commissions 20-unit accommodation block, Parade Square, pays courtesy call on Asantehene

Major General Bismarck Kwasi Onwona, the Chief of Army Staff, has commissioned a 20-Unit Accommodation Block and Parade Square at the Central Command in Kumasi, as part of his maiden visit to the Central Command.

The initiative for the accommodation block and Parade Square for training and exercise were supported by philanthropists, corporate organisations and individuals.

The Chief of Army Staff commended Brig. Gen. Agyemang Prempeh, the Commander of the Central Command for the excellent performance, in terms of infrastructural facilities and accommodation for the soldiers in the relatively shortest term as the Commander.

According to him, accommodation is a challenge for the military, especially at the Central Command, noting that quite a number of soldiers are not in decent accommodation, while some are accommodated in wooden structures at the peril of their lives.

The Maj. Gen. reminded the soldiers of this year’s general elections and urged them to perform their duties professionally at all times.

He entreated the Commanders at all levels to ensure that troops placed under their charge live up to expectation to provide the right kind of leadership during the auspicious period.

The Chief of Defence Staff also reminded them about the looming trend of terrorism in our sub-region and their responsibility to train and adequately prepare to respond appropriately in the timely manner to any imminent attack.

He entreated them to take good care of the limited resources placed under their charge to ensure their optimum use.

He expressed his profound gratitude to the soldiers’ defence, young staff and civilians for their commitment and support in materials, moral and spiritual needs.

Brig. General Agyemang Prempeh stated that his vision is to give a positive impression of the command to complement government efforts at providing decent accommodation for soldiers.

According to him, the completion and commissioning of the edifice was a function of teamwork and commitment with the support of the public and notable individuals.

Brigadier General Agyemang Prempeh expressed gratitude for the immense contributions towards the wellbeing of the hardworking soldiers to ensure their families have decent accommodation while the parade square would enhance training and Exercise by the soldiers.

The Chief of Army Staff Major General Bismarck Kwasi Onwona has also paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia Palace during his maiden working visit to the Central Command.
