The Chief of Atwima-Hwidiem, Nana Boadi Ababio II, has appealed to the government to consider giving the community a befitting face-lift.
He said the government’s intervention was necessary as Atwima Hwidiem, in the Atwima Kwanwoma District, happened to be the hometown of the late military Head of State, Mr. Ignatius Kutu Acheampong.
He also called on other stakeholders and the indigenes, both home and in the diaspora, to come to their aid to help give the place a facelift, complained of lack of infrastructural development.
Speaking at a grand durbar of the Agona Royal Family of Atwima-Hwidiem to mark the first anniversary celebration of his installment, Nana Boadi Ababio bemoaned that Atwima-Hwidiem had been neglected and left out of development for some time now by governments and stakeholders.
He noted that the community lacked some basic social amenities that made life better, especially roads, education, and potable water, further disclosed that the public place of convenience had collapsed recently.
The Chief noted that building a community was the shared responsibility of every concerned citizen, and called on individuals, corporate bodies, philanthropists, and the government to come to their aid.
He said all hands must be put on deck to make the proposed face-lift a reality to fulfil his dream of honouring the former Head of State.
The Hwidiem Chief announced plans to establish a library, boys’ school and museum in honour of the late General Kutu Acheampong as a tourist attraction.
