The Ahafo Ano South East NPP has gotten a major boost in its campaign, with the return of former DCE and former constituency chairman, Joseph Agyemang Dapaah, to join the party’s campaign.
The former constituency chairman stayed away from party activities because his sacrifices and contributions to the party had not been recognised and appreciated by the current crop of executives.
Mr Dapaah has served the party in various capacities since 1999. He was an Assemblyman for 12 years, Constituency chairman for 16 years, Presiding Member for four years and District Chief Executive for four years.
Realising the apathy of party members and executives, following chairman Dapaah’s absence, the Parliamentary Candidate (PC), Frederick Acheampong, intervened for his return, which news was received with joy.
At a meeting of party constituency executives, electoral area coordinators and constituency elders last Thursday at Adugyama at the instance of the Ashanti Regional Council of Elders, Chairman Dapaah announced his comeback in the interest of the party and declared to actively join the campaign trail in the constituency.
He pledged to help the PC, party executives and the DCE to sustain the support base of the party.
Chairman Dapaah, as he is popularly known, thanked the PC for recognising his role and used the opportunity to invite all his followers to join the campaign team, and stressed the need for the party to intensify house-to-house campaigns and make incursions into NDC strongholds in the constituency.
His return has allayed the fears of constituents that the NDC could take over the seat, as the opposition party seem to be inching closer as a result of the laxity in the NPP campaign.
Dr. Moussa Jabir Kebir, Vice chairman of the Ashanti Regional NPP Council of Elders commended Chairman Dapaah for the decision to join forces with the campaign team to rescue the party.
He also charged the DCE, Thomas Owusu Ansah, the constituency chairman, Kwabena Owusu and the Parliamentary candidate, Frederick Acheampong, to team up with Chairman Dapaah to salvage the Ahafo Ano South West seat.
The Parliamentary candidate, Frederick Acheampong, alias Archie, called for unity among the constituency executives and the campaign team to execute the objective of maintaining the seat by intensifying campaigns at Adugyama, Biemso, Abesewa and Sabronum among others, in the constituency.
Members of the Ashanti Regional Council of Elders at the reconciliation meeting at Adugyama were; Victor Owusu Jnr. (Secretary), Kofi Frimpong (former MP, Kwabre East), F.F. Anto, (former NPP Regional chairman and former First National Vice Chairman), Madam Mary Duodu (Regional School Feeding Coordinator), Mr. Kwabena Dwomo (former Bantama constituency chairman), Madam Serwaa Derchie (first Ashanti Regional Women’s Organiser and former MCE for Ejisu), Alex Kweku Kuranchie (former MP Asante Akim South and Board chairman, Middle Belt Development Authority), Mrs. Elizabeth Agyemang (former Oforikrom MP) and Nana Adu Gyamfi.
Meanwhile, DCE Thomas Owusu Ansah has assured that a Health Centre at Fawoman would be commissioned this week, to serve the health needs of the people in the area.
