The Chief Executive Officer of the Zongo Development Fund (ZoDF), Obrempong Dr. Arafat Sulemana Abdulai, has ordered the immediate closure of the Old Tafo Community Sports and Social Centre (Astro Turf) in the Ashanti Region.
The Sports Complex was constructed by the ZoDF as part its comprehensive development of infrastructure in the Zongo communities. The astro turfs also form part of initiatives to encourage sporting and social activities; promote integration and peaceful co-existence, and provide opportunities for advancement in football and other sporting endeavours by the youth in Zongo communities.
Dr. Abdulai, who was accompanied by officials from the Old Tafo Municipal Assembly and other ZoDF officials, conducted an official inspection and assessment of the state of the facility. He issued a directive for the closure of the park pending repair works and the composition of a ZoDF approved management committee to oversee the CSSC.
Dr. Abdulai expressed his dissatisfaction with the deplorable condition of the park, refusal to work with a ZoDF sanctioned management committee, lack of accountability of proceeds from the CSSC and siphoning of funds by unauthorised persons.
The decision by Dr. Abdulai was part of an on-going exercise to ensure proper management and accountability of the CSSCs and other revenue generating investments made by the Fund.
The Old Tafo CSSC will be reopened to the public after repair works and the composition of a new management approved by the Fund.
The ZoDF has currently constructed over 23 CSSCs in the Zongo communities.
