The CEO of Abosomankotere Co-operative Credit Union Mr Aforbu Prosper has called on the government to collaborate with co-operatives to champion the 1D1F Initiative.
Addressing the media at the 50th Anniversary and Annual General Meeting of Abosomankotere Co-operative Credit Union at Buipe, he stated that co-operatives have been supporting their members with loans but can do better with government support.
“If the government can channel certain facilities to credit unions, we will be able to support our members to expand their farms”, he said.
He continued that, Ghana is blessed with arable lands and all that the farmers need is financial support.
“We have arable lands in Ghana and with financial support, Ghana will have enough to feed on and export some for foreign exchange”, he said.
Abosomankotere Co-operative Credit Union has over the years supported agricultural development.
The cooperative has supported Farmers’ Day celebrations in all operating Municipals and Districts with spraying machines, weedicides and cutlasses among others.
Mr. Aforbu Prosper said the cooperative is for the economic well-being of the people.
“All over the world, people come together to form groups for their benefit. Cooperative is a non-profit organization, that is why we are tax exempted, so most of the profit goes back to support people”, he said.
DONATION
He explained that Abosomankotere Co-operative Credit Union realised that there was a need to provide a place of convenience for patrons of the Buipe Market and for which reason the union has provided a toilet facility for the people.
He admonished those who will be in charge of the facility to manage it well.
“We expect that a management team is constituted to ensure proper maintenance of the facility and revenues generated put into good use to construct others for other communities”, he said.
On behalf of Buipewura Jinapor II, Chief Debampra Seidu A. Fatawu commended Abosomankotere Co-operative Credit Union for providing the facility and promised to put it to good use to the benefit of the people of Buipe.
He continued that this is the first of its kind as Buipe has never benefited from any corporate social responsibility from the numerous financial institutions in the town.
He added that Abosomankotere Co-operative Credit Union’s gesture should be an awakening to other financial institutions.
