CBI Ghana Ltd. drills borehole for Okorase residents

CBI Ghana Ltd, the producer of Supacem cement, has commissioned a borehole in Koforidua Okorase, Eastern Region, as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts.

In collaboration with local distributor Sammar Trading, this initiative aims to provide the community with sustainable access to clean water.

Adeline Esi Sutherland, Head of Marketing and Corporate Communication at CBI Ghana Ltd, emphasised the importance of this project in addressing the long-standing water scarcity in Koforidua Okorase.

By delivering a dependable source of clean water, Supacem reinforces its commitment to enhancing the quality of life in the areas it serves.

“This borehole project responds directly to the community’s need for sustainable clean water,” Sutherland stated.

“It reflects our dedication to making a positive, lasting impact on the health and daily life of local residents.”

The initiative exemplifies Supacem’s focus on sustainable development. Sutherland noted that the borehole taps into groundwater, making it a more environmentally responsible solution compared to open wells, which are prone to contamination.

Alex Owusu Larbi, CEO of Sammar Trading and Construction Limited, highlighted the significance of local partnerships in ensuring the project’s success.

He stressed that understanding the community’s specific needs was crucial for effective implementation and long-term maintenance.

“This project clearly shows the people of Koforidua Okorase that Supacem is invested in their well-being, not just business,” he said.

The community has expressed strong support for the initiative. Nana Asare Kumi III, Chief of Koforidua Okorase, conveyed his appreciation, stating “This borehole project demonstrates our commitment to your health and future.”

This initiative marks the beginning of Supacem’s broader CSR efforts, with plans to expand similar projects based on community needs across various regions.

“We are continuously exploring ways to give back and make a lasting difference,” Sutherland added.

Supacem’s focus on community development aligns with its growth strategy. Since its inception as a cement importer in 2017, the company has quickly transformed into a major local manufacturer, planning to increase its production capacity from 600,000 tons to 1.5 million tons annually by 2025, representing an investment of $80 million.

As Supacem expands its operations, it remains dedicated to responsible corporate citizenship and sustainable practices.

The company recently announced plans for the world’s largest Flash Calciner plant, aiming to reduce clinker use by 20%, thereby decreasing the carbon footprint of cement production.

By integrating community development with its sustainability goals, Supacem is establishing a distinctive position within Ghana’s cement industry.

Its collaboration with local distributors like Sammar Trading not only enhances CSR initiatives but also strengthens its distribution network in a competitive market.
