The Carlos Foundation, a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), in collaboration with the Tafo Municipal Assembly has organised a sensitisation programme to advocate on the need for a cordial relationship between health workers, especially nurses and patients and stakeholders.
The programme was also to educate pregnant women on the needed preparedness of expectancy before visiting the health facility for delivery.
It was intended to sensitise or educate a section of women in the Tafo municipality towards curbing the rate of maternal mortality.
Mr. Kwame Brefo Koduah, Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the organisation, urged women, especially those who were pregnant, to always prioritise maternal healthcare during pregnancy to reduce the child mortality rate.
He stated that most of the cases of child mortality were preventable if the women had observed regular checks and healthcare.
According to him, there were a number of the unfortunate cases arising from negligence and ignorance on the part of expectant women, while sometimes their economic conditions came into play.
Mr. Brefo Koduah said it was long overdue that the government rekindled free material care for pregnant women if we want to seriously achieve the Sustainable Development Goal on health.
Ms. Freda Oduro Mensah, a Nurse from the St. Patrick Hospital at Offinso, also advised colleague health professionals to desist from unprofessional and unethical acts in the line of duty to strengthen the patient-nurse relationship towards their mandate to save lives.
She cautioned nurses to be guided by ethics, rules and regulations to streamline the client and nurse relationship in order not to turn away or discourage patients from visiting the health facilities.
