A 35-year-old automobile dealer, Bismark Annor, has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢30,000 by an Accra Circuit Court over an alleged GH¢130,000 fraud involving a Toyota RAV4 vehicle.

Annor is accused of defrauding a teacher, Cynthia Ofori Ampomah, by falsely representing that he could import and supply her with the vehicle within three months after receiving payment

The court, presided over by His Honour Kwabena Kodua Obiri-Yeboah, granted the accused bail with three sureties when he appeared before it on October 22, 2026.  The prosecution told the court that it was not opposed to the bail application, adding that the accused had only just been served with the charges and would therefore enter his plea at the next adjourned date. The court subsequently adjourned the case to October 28, 2026, for the plea to be taken.

Chief Inspector Stanley Fiotso, the prosecutor told the court that  after the agreed three-month period for the delivery of the said vehicle had elapsed, the accused allegedly offered excuses when confronted by the complainant and subsequently stopped communicating with her. The prosecution said Annor allegedly went into hiding, while efforts to trace him proved unsuccessful.

The complainant reportedly lodged a formal complaint with the Adabraka Police on October 9, 2026, after receiving information that the accused had been arrested and detained at the Taifa Police Station in connection with a similar alleged offence.

Police investigations led to the complainant identifying Annor, who, according to the prosecution, admitted the offence during investigations.

Further investigations allegedly established that Annor had previously worked at a microcredit financial institution before leaving to rent an office at Adabraka, which he operated under the name Goodnews Automobile Company Limited.

The prosecution alleged that he used the office to obtain money from unsuspecting members of the public under the pretext of importing and selling vehicles.

Investigators further alleged that Annor had no licence or legitimate business for importing and selling vehicles in Ghana and had no means of supplying the vehicle when he collected the money.

The prosecution also alleged that he converted the entire GH¢130,000 to his personal use and could not account for the money. According to the case brief, Annor is also standing trial at the Kwabenya Circuit Court for a similar offence.
