The Founder and Leader of ‘Friends of Bawumia’, Mr. Kofi Winfred Gidiglo, says Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the surest bet for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to break the eight-year jinx in the 2024 elections.
According to him, it would be politically suicidal for the NPP, as a party, to overlook all the qualities of Vice President Dr. Bawumia and deny him the opportunity to lead the party as its flag bearer.
Mr. Gidiglo made this known during the launch of the Central Regional branch of Friends of Bawumia ‘FOB’ at Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East Constituency.
Mr. Gidiglo, who is popularly known as Chairman Saddam, indicated that Dr. Bawumia had also demonstrated beyond all reasonable understanding that he had what it took to retain power for the NPP.
He added that Dr. Bawumia’s total commitment, loyalty and dedication to President Nana Akufo-Addo had endeared him to the hearts of the party’s grassroots, as well as the electorate in general.
“Electing His Excellency the Vice President to lead us into the 2024 elections will give us the golden opportunity as a party to break the eight year jinx around the presidency,” he said.
He explained that the main goal of FOB was to decently tout the good deeds of the Vice President and market his credentials as someone whose efforts had improved the electoral fortunes of the NPP.
“When the party went to court after the 2012 elections, we all witnessed how Dr. Bawumia sacrificed for the party at the Supreme Court during the hearing of the case,” he said.
“Dr. Bawumia’s excellent delivery during the hearing of the case, un doubtedly made the party attractive to all [the] electorate, and we cannot rule out his impact on our subsequent victories,”. he stressed.
The calmness and flawless nature of Dr. Bawumia’s delivery at the Supreme Court, according to Chairman Saddam, contributed significantly to the landslide victory the party recorded in the 2016 and 2020 elections.
Inauguration of the new executives
As a part of activities of the launch, new regional executives of FOB were also inaugurated with the responsibility to coordinate activities of Friends of Bawumia in the region.
The twenty-one member regional executives would be chaired by Madam Betty Adwoa Nyantekyiwaa Kwaako, with Issah Ahmed as the Coordinator.
Inaugurating the officers, Chairman Saddam reminded them of the fact that nominations and filing for the presidential candidate’s position were still not opened by the party.
He, therefore, admonished them to be circumspect with all their dealings as executives of FOB and make the Charitable Organisation attractive to all delegates.
Chairperson’s remarks
On behalf of the executives, Madam Betty Adwoa Nyantekyiwaa Kwaako thanked the national executives of FOB for the honour done them and promised that they would work diligently to win the Central Region for Dr Bawumia.
