The Bratuo Nzafram Royal Stool of Himankrom in the Ahanta Traditional Area says it has performed a customary ritual to destool Nana Gyedu Asua II as Chief of Ahanta Mpanyinasa.
That apart, the family of Gyedu Asua, known in private life as Robert Mensah, has also been withdrawn from the royal lineage of the Bretuo Ebiradze Family.
Thus, members of the Gyedu Asua family are prevented from ruling or conducting themselves as a Chief, Queenmother or royal household at Mpayinasa.
Ebusuapyin Anyami, Head of the Royal Family, slaughtered a sheep at the Mpayinasa Community Center to signify the traditional and customary destoolment of Gyedu Asua as Chief.
Those present at the destoolment ceremony included Eya Atta, Deputy Famil Head, Charles Enyimasa, Benya Gyaemesaaye, Nana Ampofo, and Chief Linguist Asobenya amongst many others.
Ebusuapayin Anyami levelled various charges against the Chief as reasons he has been removed from the stool.
The charges he levelled included the alleged inability of the Chief to settle a debt owed by the Himakrom Stool, leading to the auction of the entire land belonging to Himakrom.
Again, the alleged destooled chief and his family enthroned a Chief without the knowledge of the Himakrom Stool, which is the custodian of the Himakrom Stool lands and Mpayinasa.
According to the Ebusuapayin, attempts to give hearing to the destooled Chief to answer the charges failed, as he did not turn up on the several occasions he was invited, but Nana Gyedu Asua denied the charges. He also denied in a telephone interview that he had been destooled.
Nana Gyedu Asua told this reporter that he remained the Chief of Mpayinasa, and that no one, including Nana Nzafram, had the power to destool him.
“I am a gazeted Chief from sixteen years ago, and no one can destool me.”
He asked whether those who claimed to have destool him, based on the charges, had evidence to support their claim.
