Coventry City striker Brandon Thomas-Asante has earned a late call-up to the Ghana national team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against the Central African Republic and Comoros.

The 26-year-old forward replaces Inaki Williams, who has been ruled out after sustaining an injury during Athletic Bilbao’s La Liga clash with Mallorca on Saturday.

Thomas-Asante has been in fine form this season, scoring five goals and providing three assists in nine Championship appearances. He underlined his scoring touch over the weekend with a brace for Coventry City, prompting Otto Addo to hand him a spot in the squad.

Williams, 31, was originally named in Addo’s 24-man list for the crucial double-header but will now miss both fixtures.

The Black Stars are currently in Casablanca, Morocco, preparing for their first encounter against the Central African Republic on Wednesday, October 8, 2025. They will then return home to face Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, October 12.

Ghana sit atop Group I with 19 points and are seeking to secure qualification for their fifth FIFA World Cup appearance.
