The Circuit Court in Accra, presided over by His Honour Samuel Bright Acquah, has convicted and sentenced Philip Gadovor, 18, on charges of unlawful entry and stealing.

Gadovor was fined 300 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢38,000, with a default sentence of three years imprisonment for the first count of unlawful entry.

For the second count of stealing, he was fined 400 penalty units (GH¢48,000) or four years imprisonment in hard labour. The sentences are to run concurrently.

The offences relate to incidents that occurred on April 17 and May 4, 2025 at West Trassaco, Greater Accra Region. Gadovor unlawfully entered the apartment of businessman, John Acquah with the intent to steal. Among the stolen items were an iPhone XS mobile phone, an Apple iPad, an HP Envy laptop, three T-shirts, and a Play Station Portable (PSP) gaming device, with a total value estimated at GH¢26,500.

John Acquah, the complainant, discovered the burglary after returning home and reported the matter to the police.

The accused, who had been working as an errand boy for the complainant and lived nearby, was identified after being spotted wearing one of the stolen T-shirts.

Following his arrest, Gadovor admitted to stealing a spare key to the apartment and selling some stolen items at Madina Zongo Junction for GH¢1,100.

Further investigations revealed that Gadovor returned to the complainant’s home on May 4, 2025, to steal the PSP, leading to his re-arrest on May 5. During questioning, Gadovor implicated two suspects, identified as “Burn Them” and “Saasa,” who remain at large as receivers of the stolen goods.

Prosecuting officer ASP Raymond Ackon confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects who are still on the run.
