The Environmental Service Providers Association (ESPA) has suspended its planned nationwide strike, which was scheduled to take effect on Friday, November 7, 2025 following fresh assurances from government to settle arrears owed to sanitation service providers.
In a statement signed by Ama Ofori Antwi, Executive Secretary of ESPA, the Association said the decision followed fruitful engagements with the Minister for Local Government and Religious Affairs, Ibrahim Ahmed, who invited the leadership of the Association for urgent dialogue toward resolving the payment challenges confronting members.
The Minister, according to ESPA, has assured that government was committed to processing and clearing all outstanding debts owed to waste management companies within the shortest possible time.
“The call also provides a platform for both parties to discuss sustainable policy and funding mechanisms for the waste management sector moving forward,” the statement added.
Consequently, the Association has urged all member companies to suspend the planned strike action and continue their normal operations while leadership works closely with government to reach a firm and mutually beneficial resolution of the impasse.
“We strongly advise that members continue their normal operations in spite of the daunting challenges, as leadership works closely with the government to reach a firm and mutually beneficial resolution of the impasse,” ESPA said.
The Association also commended its members for their patience and resilience in continuing to deliver essential sanitation services despite financial constraints.
“We, therefore, encourage all members to maintain calm, stay united, and refrain from any action that may disrupt waste collection and sanitation services while negotiations are ongoing,” the statement further noted.
ESPA reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the interests of all members and ensuring that Ghana’s waste management infrastructure continues to operate efficiently for the benefit of the public and the environment.
