A popular publication house in Ghana, Boat Publications marked the launch of a new venture with an event that underscored the significance of creative writing in children’s growth and development.
Held on August 24, 2024, at the Ibis Styles Hotel in Accra, the event convened psychologists, educators, and parents to explore how poetry, stories, journaling and other forms of expressive writing contribute to the cognitive and emotional development of young minds.
Experts at the event emphasized the role of creative writing in helping children process emotions, develop critical thinking skills and express themselves more effectively. Educators also highlighted the importance of incorporating writing into early education to enhance literacy and communication abilities.
A highlight of the event was the recognition of young writers who excelled in ‘The Written Peace Creative Writing Contest,’ an initiative by Boat Publications in collaboration with GILI, 233times.net and Oasis Wellness. The contest winners were applauded for their creativity and storytelling skills, with their work showcasing the impressive potential of young talents.
Winners of the prose category Godson Gad Adom- Believers Hope School, Daniel Ansoade -United Church School, and Sroda Nyadedzor-United Church School and winners of the poetry category were Jedidiah Djakumah -North Ridge Lyceum, Manuel Effah-United Church School, and Gloria Bedzo- Believers Hope School.
Ruth Boateng, CEO of Boat Publications, noted that producing educational and creative materials for children is a key focus of the company. “Our mission at Boat Publications is to cultivate a love for creative writing and reading among children. We are committed to discovering and nurturing young storytellers and poets, recognizing the profound impact of imagination and writing on their development,” Miss Boateng said.
