A new volunteer group that has emerged in the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), known as Bawumia Must Win (BMW), has been officially launched. The group has predicted that their candidate, Dr. Bawumia, would garner 85% of the total valid votes cast at the end of the primary.
The agenda of the group, consisting mainly of youth in the party, is to ensure the sitting Vice President, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, becomes the flag bearer of the NPP. Thereafter, the BMW says it would work towards the victory of Dr. Bawumia and the NPP in December next year.
The National President of BMW touted the group as by far “the fastest-rising political volunteer group” in the NPP, and the country at large. “The vibrancy and superb organisational skills of this group cannot be overemphasized,” he opined. He owed the success of the launch of BMW to the enormous collective effort of individuals who shared the vision of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The entire event and the address of the National President of BMW highlighted the credentials of Dr. Bawumia, with a common refrain that he is the safest bet for the NPP going into 2024. Mr. Gyesi Boako mentioned the work Dr. Bawumia has done to put the country’s economy on a digital pedestal. He mentioned the medical drone system, paperless ports, and E-pharmacy, among others, claiming that Dr. Bawumia is a “threat” to the NDC.
“This and many more are the reasons we have gathered here, to appeal to our delegates and the general public to massively endorse the candidature of His Excellency the Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to become the Flag bearer of the NPP and ultimately the next President of the Republic,” he added.
STRATEGY
Speaking on how the group would work to benefit their candidate, the National President said they would harness one of what he called the great potentials of Dr. Bawumia, which is communication. He noted that the BMW would use all available communication channels, both traditional and social media, to project, protect, and defend the brand Dr. Bawumia. The means adopted is to enable them to reach out to as many delegates as possible before the party’s presidential primaries.
“While we have no doubt in our mind that Dr. Bawumia will win the presidential primaries, we are determined to see him achieve a percentage of not less than 85 to send a strong message to all aspirants and the opposition National Democratic Congress.”
OTHERS
The launch attracted known faces of the party, particularly in its communication section. They included Dennis Miracle Aboagye, Yaw Preko, and Yaw Adomako Barfi, who all spoke for the government and party, as well as the son of the late Aliu Mahama, Farouk Aliu Mahama, who is the Member of Parliament for the Yendi constituency.
In his remarks as the patron of BMW, he highlighted that his late father was one of the people who supported the choice of Dr. Bawumia to partner Nana Akufo-Addo. Therefore, he believed he was doing what his father would have done today by pushing for Dr. Bawumia to become the party’s leader and subsequently the president.
Meanwhile, he advised against campaigns of insults, explaining that the unity of the party should be paramount during the contest. The NPP is preparing to hold its presidential and parliamentary primaries in November or December this year.
