A new nationwide poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics has reaffirmed Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s dominant position within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), showing that his core support remains solid and largely unshaken ahead of the party’s flagbearership race.

The September 2025 survey, which assessed the preferences of NPP voters, revealed that an overwhelming 72% of those who supported Dr. Bawumia (DMB) in the 2024 general election still prefer him to lead the party into the next electoral cycle.

His closest contender, Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong (KOA) trails significantly with 20% support among this crucial voter bloc.

Analysts say the findings underscore a foundation of deep loyalty and sustained trust in the Vice President’s leadership.

“When over seven out of ten of your previous voters remain firmly behind you, it signals a commanding lead and enduring appeal,” Global InfoAnalytics noted in its report.

Dr. Bawumia’s dominance is even more pronounced in the Ashanti Region, the NPP’s traditional stronghold where 73% of party voters who cast their ballots for him in 2024 continue to back his flagbearership bid.

In contrast, Mr. Kennedy Agyapong attracts just 20% in the same region, highlighting Dr. Bawumia’s entrenched influence in the party’s heartland.

Beyond his loyal base, the poll also explored the sentiments of disillusioned NPP supporters who crossed over to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the 2024 elections.

Nationally, this group remains more divided, with 39% now favouring Dr. Bawumia and 36% leaning toward Mr. Agyapong.

However, a surprising trend emerged from the Ashanti Region, even among these estranged voters.

A resounding 63% of those who voted for the NDC’s John Dramani Mahama (JDM) in 2024 now prefer Dr. Bawumia to lead the NPP, while only 21% support Mr. Agyapong.

This finding, according to observers, reflects the Vice President’s growing capacity to unify the party and reclaim defected supporters in a region vital to the NPP’s electoral success.

Political analysts describe the poll results as a major boost for Dr. Bawumia’s campaign, demonstrating that his appeal transcends internal party divisions.

His ability to consolidate loyalty, while regaining lost supporters, positions him as the most unifying candidate, ahead of the NPP’s January 2026 flagbearership contest.

Meanwhile, Global InfoAnalytics has announced the commencement of its October 2025 Delegates Poll, which will focus specifically on the preferences of party delegates who hold the decisive votes in the flagbearer election.

The results of that survey are expected to offer a more precise projection of how the internal contest might unfold.
