Alhaji Alhasan Tapsoba, Ashanti Regional Deputy Security Coordinator has warned Ghanaians against physically attacking Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) personnel while on duty.

Speaking to the media, Alhaji Tapsoba expressed concern over recent attacks on fire service personnel, stressing that such actions are against Ghana’s law and constitution.

He said attacking a fire-fighter and thus obstruct them is illegal in Ghana and emphasized that anyone found guilty of manhandling fire service personnel will face prosecution.

The Ghana National Fire Service Act 537 of 1997, which provides the legal mandate for the service, and the Ministry of the Interior emphasizes that individuals who attack personnel or fire engines will face the “full rigours of the law”.

Alhjai Tapsoba, therefore, urged the public to cooperate with fire fighters and refrain from attacking them or their equipment.

He emphasised the importance of protecting lives and properties and urged the public to partner with GNFS in fire prevention efforts and adhere to safety measures, such as using certified electricians and avoiding cooking in market centers and shops.
