Ashanti Regional Scouts Assoc. embarks on tree planting exercise at Lake Bosomtwe

The Ashanti Regional Scouts Association, in partnership with the Oheneba Poku Foundation, has embarked on a tree planting exercise at the banks of Lake Bosomtwe, towards protecting and preserving the water from the effects of the recent climate change.

Benjamin Alhassan Akasui, Ashanti Regional Scout Council Board Chairman and National Safe Coordinator, Ghana Scout Association, explained that the initiative is to complement efforts by the government and other stakeholders to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (SDGs 13 and 16) to preserve the effects of climate change on all living things and animals.

According to him, one of the laws of the Scouts is to be kind to animals and protect all living things in order to create a better world with the support of chiefs, stakeholders, and the Nana Poku Foundation to ensure that the exercise takes place annually.

Faisal Alhassan Maiga, Regional Programmes Commissioner of the Ghana Scout Association, disclosed that the planting of over 500 Ofram trees is part of this year’s hiking exercise to walk around communities along Lake Bosomtwe and the Abono as their contributions towards protecting and preserving the Lake Bosomtwe for future generations.

Nana Kofi Poku, Founder of the Oheneba Poku Foundation, noted that the exercise is aimed at promoting sustainability, enhancing local ecosystems, and empowering the youth, as well as ensuring the preservation of the lake for future generations.

He said their collaboration with the Ghana Scout Association exemplifies the spirit of partnership needed to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

He disclosed that the Oheneba Poku Foundation remains dedicated to driving positive change in communities and is also committed to its mission of fostering environmental stewardship and community development through initiatives focused on environmental protection, youth empowerment, and sustainable development.

He urged them to carry the spirit of service and environmental stewardship forward in all their future endeavours.

Nana Appiah-Kubi, Chief of the Abono Community, expressed his profound gratitude to the Ghana Scout Association for the initiative and their commitment to preserve the water and protect the environment.

He urged them to continue such impactful programmes for the benefit of the citizenry.
