The Executive Director of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Dr. Dominic Eduah, has announced that they have funded 123 interventions in projects in the Ashanti region with oil proceeds, since the beginning of the year.
These projects, which are geared towards impacting the socio-economic conditions of Ghanaian, include Astroturf, Boreholes and Sanitary facilities.
He made these disclosures at the commissioning of some classroom units and toilet facilities in some schools and communities in the Ashanti region last Thursday.
The projects include a 3-unit classroom block at Dasomiadwene D/A Basic School in the Adansi Asokwa Municipal Assembly; Asokwa D/A Basic School in the Adansi Asokwa Municipal Assembly; 12-seater toilet facility at Atonsu Bokro and a 6- unit classroom block at Kumasi High School.
He said the GNPC has completed 57 Boreholes, 43 Classroom blocks, 10 Astroturf fields and other interventions in the area of health, education and training, where scholarships are offered to needy Ghanaian students, as well as special capacity building for skill development.
He said the GNPC has awarded scholarships to over 7,800 persons across the country, with others sent abroad and at the tertiary level in Ghana.
Apart from the provision of physical projects which are under environment and social amenities, Dominic Eduah said the Foundation has also invested in other fields like education, health and economic empowerment programs.
Dr. Eduah also mentioned that in terms of infrastructure, GNPC Foundation has provided Classroom blocks, Dormitories, Science blocks, Sick bays and Dining halls for schools.
In the area of health, the GNPC boss said it had trained 200 doctors in Cuba and the selection was done by the Health Ministry”.
According to Dr. Eduah, the GNPC Foundation is determined to give every region a fair share of the national cake from the oil proceeds, stressing that “We are currently working in all 16 regions, starting from the Western region, the enclave of oil production.”
He assured that in line with the motto of GNPC, “Impacting the lives of Ghanaians”, the Foundation will continue to support Ghanaians with the oil money or proceeds to improve their lives.
The Headmaster of Kumasi Senior High School (KUHIS), Mr. Benjamin Tawiah Twum, thanked GNPC for the support, which will help curb their infrastructure deficit.
He then pleaded to other government agencies and philanthropists to assist the school with computer laboratories and others.
