The Ashanti Regional Forestry Division has targeted to plant about 2.5 million seedlings today to mark this year’s Green Ghana’s Day, with the nationwide target of 10,000.000.
Mr. Clement Amo Omari, the Regional Manager, at a press briefing at the Regional Office towards the Green Ghana Day, explained that in the last three years, since the beginning of the programme by the government, the Ashanti region has planted about 14 million trees.
According to him, the only challenge the forestry always encounters is the operation of illegal miners and Chainsaw operators in the forests and bushfires, which defeat the efforts of greening the country.
He urged all stakeholders to get involved in protecting the forest reserves and the environment for the sake of future generations.
The Forestry Manager also advised teachers to get the students involved in the planting of trees to enable them understand the essence of tree planting.
Mr. Omari pleaded with every stakeholder and individuals to also get involved in the exercise, saying one can choose to plant a tree to beautify one’s environment or at one’s backyard to mitigate effects of degraded environment.
