Speaking during the event held at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II remarked, “We have a judiciary that may not be perfect, but it deserves credit for the positive efforts.”

The Asantehene, revered for his profound wisdom, connected his praise for the judiciary to a popular song by celebrated Ghanaian musician Kofi Kinaata.

Referring to the lyrics of Kinaata’s hit song ‘Susuka,’ he said; “Sometimes, listening to the wisdom of our musicians and reflecting on a piece like Kofi Kinaata’s ‘Obi nya wo ayɛ’ reminds us to appreciate what we have. In comparison to many other nations, we can proudly say ‘Y’enya mo ayɛ’ to wit; we have something worth cherishing.”

The Annual General Conference, themed ‘Peaceful, Fair and Transparent Elections: The Key to Sustainable Democracy,” brought together prominent figures, including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame, and GBA President Yaw Boafo. The conference underscored the critical role of Ghana’s judiciary in safeguarding democracy, especially in the upcoming elections.

The Asantehene’s address emphasized the importance of nurturing a trustworthy judicial system and urged Ghanaians to uphold democratic values. His speech, highlighting the cultural and social impact of music in shaping public thought, resonated strongly with the audience, as it reflected the unity of tradition and modernity in Ghanaian society.

The five-day event, runs from 8th to 13th September 2024 and aims to promote dialogue on sustaining democratic processes in Ghana.
